TASTE OF MARIETTA

Yuengling is proud to sponsor the 16th Annual Taste of Marietta food festival in our newest territory of Georgia. The festival will take place on April 26th from 11am-7pm in the Historic Marietta Square. This event saw a crowd of 70,000 people last year, and that was in the rain! Yuengling will be ready for the day, pouring Traditional Lager, Light Lager, and Black & Tan. Admission is free and food samples range from $0.50-$4.00. There will be plenty of food choices to go along with your Yuengling for the day, as over 50 restaurants will be offering tasting selections at the festival. In addition to the great beer and food selection, there will be four stages set up with live entertainment throughout the day. Come out and join us for this annual event. A SITE TO SEE (Part 3)

Spring is upon us here in Pennsylvania! If you are looking for a nice way to enjoy the weather, take a ride to scenic Schuylkill County and come visit America's Oldest Brewery. You can check out the January blog archives to read the first two posts in this series.

If you need one more reason to visit the brewery, besides the decorative brew house and a front row view of the bottling process, we’ve got something else for you. The Pottsville brewery is built on the side of a mountain here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The brewery literally extends into the mountain! In 1831 the brewery capitalized on the location by digging storage caves into the side of the mountain. These caves still exist today and visitors have the opportunity to walk through them at the end of the tour. The caves remain at a constant temperature of 42 degrees Fahrenheit year round. They were created for the purpose of cold storage. The caves were hand dug, because the use of explosives may have disrupted the brewery above. The caves are U shaped and roughly 150 yards in total length. They sit 50’ below the surface and extend into the mountain roughly 75’. During prohibition times this area was closed up by the government in the form of permanent brick walls. In honor of our 175th Anniversary, in 2004 we opened up this area for the public, and it is still included on our tours to this day. After you view the caves we invite you to end your tour with a sample in our brewery Rathskellar, built in 1936.
Now that you have the basics, along with a couple of photos that let you know what to expect, we really do hope you come and visit America’s Oldest Brewery in person. Pottsville tour times are 10am and 1:30pm Monday thru Friday. Saturday hours begin in April and run through December. Saturday tour times are 11am, 12pm, and 1pm. All visitors are required to wear completely closed footwear, no exceptions. Please visit Yuengling.com for complete tour information before you plan your visit.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY - SAVANNAH GA

Since Yuengling arrived in Georgia, there have been some exciting events. St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah was no exception. Yuengling took center stage all weekend long by creating a custom 10’x20’ Lager backdrop for the outdoor stage located in the city market area. The Yuengling stage featured a range of performances including a DJ, several bands, and traditional Irish music featuring bagpipes.
Yuengling fans came out all weekend long dressed in green to keep with the spirit of the weekend. Our wholesale partner Southern Eagle did a great job keeping everyone’s glasses full under the beer tent. Southern Eagle was well prepared for the weekend; they made sure there was plenty of Lager and Black & Tan available for the entire event. When all was said and done, Southern Eagle went through nearly 200 half kegs! The wholesaler says that their sales volume typically doubles around this holiday. Yuengling is proud to be a part of that increased volume. You can read more about how Southern Eagle prepared for the holiday here. Thank you to Doug Williams, Denny Martin, and Johnnie Wilson for contribution to Yuengling’s success in Savannah this year. Enjoy the event pictures below.

LAKE PLACID GETAWAY

Winter has come to and end and Yuengling fans deserve a getaway! Thirty four lucky winners from our New York market experienced the Lake Placid winter getaway weekend with Yuengling in mid March. The New York market ran a unique snow promotion throughout the winter, giving consumers the chance to experience a weekend long Lake Placid trip. The weekend started on Friday evening once everyone had arrived. They all gathered in the Adirondack High Peaks Hotel meeting room for a meet and greet event from 6-9pm. Here, the guests received their Yuengling gear along with a schedule of activities that were planned for the weekend. After the meet and greet, the night was young and everyone headed off to a promo at Zig Zags from 9-11pm. The promo included a snow board giveaway, Yuengling girls, and Bock and Lager drink specials. For those guests who wanted to keep going and start the weekend off right, there was a second promo at Wise Guys where guests ended their first night.
Saturday began with a brief recap of the day’s events in the hotel lobby. Participants were excited to take part in skeleton and bobsled runs on the mountain. The response to the Yuengling Winter Olympic events was good, with all of the guests participating in the bobsled rides and half of them braving the skeleton run. When all was said and done, the bobsled runs were all within one or two seconds of each other, with none slower than 49 seconds. The skeleton runs were all within about 4 seconds of each other, with speeds reaching around 50 MPH. Congratulations to the event winners, the results can be seen below:

Bobsled Winners
Gold - Sled 18 (Joe and Bill) 46.47 Seconds
Silver - Sled 16 (Steve and Drew) 46.51 Seconds
Bronze - Sled 11 (Ben and Brittany) 46.81 Seconds

Skeleton Winners – Women’s Class
Gold – Karen Huffhammer
Silver – Terri Sinzer

Skeleton Winners – Men’s Class
Gold - Joel Jaffee
Silver - Jeff Kessler
Bronze - Kellen Owen
After the day time events were over, everyone headed to the Hall of Fame Museum for drinks and dinner on the mezzanine. Here the winners of the day’s competitions were presented with their medals. Saturday night it was back to Wise Guys for a promotion from 10:30-12:30am and then to Rumors, where the promo lasted until the bar closed at 2am!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Lake Placid weekend getaway, and to everyone who made it possible! The winter promotions are a lot of fun and this weekend was a great ending to the winter season.
