HAPPY ANNIVERSARY EVE

5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Along with the new year, this evening we ring in the beginning of another momentous occasion. Yuengling will be celebrating its 180th Anniversary in 2009! That’s a significant achievement for our brewery. One that we’re very proud of. Everyone at Yuengling is appreciative of the continued support from our loyal consumers, retailers and wholesaler partners. You have all become a important part of our success and for that we thank each and every one of you.

Yuengling has been a family owned and operated business since 1829. Dick Yuengling, Jr. is the current President and Owner and is the great-great-grandson of our founder, David G. Yuengling. Under Dick’s leadership, we have become a prominent regional brewer, popular in the marketplace and widely recognized for the unique character in each of our seven beers.

Look for year-long programming efforts centered around our 180th Anniversary celebration! These will be showing up in stores and bars near you throughout 2009. We will be promoting the quality, heritage and traditions that have earned Yuengling the distinction of being America’s Oldest Brewery.

Tonight we have tremendous reason to celebrate – on the eve of a milestone anniversary year. So when you’re toasting to 2009, please take a moment to reflect on 180 years of Yuengling brewing excellence. Our wishes go out to everyone for a Happy New Year and much continued success! Please enjoy the night responsibly.

75th ANNIVERSARY OF REPEAL

This month marks an important milestone in the survival of America’s Oldest Brewery. It is the 75th Anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition. To give you a brief history of events… The Yuengling Brewery was founded in 1829. We operated a successful, yet relatively uneventful business until 1920 – when the beer industry as we knew it changed following the Volstead Act. The 18th Amendment went into effect and prohibited the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Breweries were no longer allowed to produce, transport or sell beer with an alcohol content higher than .5%. (Our beers now average around 4+% Alcohol by Volume.)

Yuengling survived Prohibition by producing three different types of near beers (those that contain less than .5% ABV). The company also diversified into the dairy business and began investing in restaurants, dance halls, and even Broadway shows to promote the sale of our near beer. It was 13 long years for everyone in the industry though, trying to survive not only Prohibition, but also the Great Depression.

On December 5th, 1933, the 21st Amendment was ratified by a ¾ majority of the states. National Prohibition was formally repealed, allowing the country to once again enjoy the great taste of beer!

The alcohol beverage industry has been honoring this anniversary all year long. But it is the month of December when we officially recognize the Repeal of Prohibition. Please join us in raising a glass of Yuengling to commemorate this important milestone. Lets all celebrate our freedom to enjoy the greatest drink on earth. As President Franklin Roosevelt said upon signing the 21st Amendment into law, “I think this would be a good time for a beer.”

BLACK & TAN FISH GUMBO
– 12 oz bottle Yuengling Black & Tan
– 2 fillets of cod fish, fresh or frozen and cut into chunks
– 6 cloves garlic, minced
– 1/4 cup diced ham or bacon
– 3 stalks of celery, chopped
– 1 large onion, diced
– 1 cup bell pepper strips
– 1 large can Italian tomatoes
– 8 oz chicken stock
– 1 cup okra, chopped
– Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce, to taste
– Cayenne pepper, thyme and bay leaves, to taste

Lightly brown garlic in olive oil. Heat the ham/bacon, celery and onions. Add peppers, tomatoes, stock and beer. Cook until peppers soften. Add Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce to taste, along with salt and pepper. Add okra and cod fish. Season with cayenne pepper, thyme and bay leaves. Simmer until fish cooks through. Garnish with parsley to serve. Makes 4 quarts

APRICOT AND CINNAMON CHESTERFIELD ALE BAKED CHICKEN
– 12 oz bottle Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale
– 2 1/2 pounds boneless chicken breasts or thighs
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 1 pkg dried apricots, chopped and lightly dusted in flour
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tbsp fresh ginger, finely minced
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– Kosher salt and pepper, to taste

In a 9x13-inch baking dish, place half the onion slices and apricots. Rub the chicken with garlic and ginger, and sprinkle with salt, pepper and cinnamon. Place chicken in the dish on top of the onions and apricots, then scatter the remaining half of onions and apricots around the chicken. Pour beer over it, submerging the onions and apricots so they don’t burn. Cover with a foil tent to keep it moist. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 1 hour, or until the chicken is cooked through, basting every 15 minutes with the liquid. Remove foil tent and cook for 15 more minutes. Top chicken with the cooked onions, apricots and sauce to serve. Makes 6 servings

YUENGLING SERVED TO A SOLD OUT CROWD IN POCONO’S

Yuengling was on tap this weekend at the 17th Annual Great Brews of America Festival. This annual event is held at the Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony, PA. Rapid online ticket sales for this two day event resulted in a sold out crowd of 3500 people, on Saturday alone. The Great Brews Festival featured over 30 Breweries with an impressive selection of brews to sample.

Yuengling teamed up with United Beverage of NEPA for this annual event. Yuengling products featured this year included Lord Chesterfield Ale, Dark Brewed Porter, and Light Lager. ALE ON TAP AT 2008 PITTSBURGH BREWFEST!

The taps were flowing with Yuengling all day at The Pittsburgh Brewfest this year! Yuengling partnered with Fuhrer Wholesale Company to attend this annual event. It was one of the first brewing events where we got to present our Lord Chesterfield Ale brand. Lord Chesterfield made its return to draught packaging in September of this year. The Ale was well received by all, and Fuhrer was well prepared for the event. They had two taps going at the same time to keep up with thirsty attendees waiting in line for their Ale samples! If you live in the Pittsburgh area and did not make it out to this year’s festival, you don’t have to wait until next year to get your Chesterfield Ale on draught; there are now over 40 bars and restaurants serving cold pints of ale in your area. We would like to thank all of the Yuengling fans who came out to the event this year. Also, a great thank you to Pete Fazio of Yuengling along with Fuhrer Sales Manager Chris Wagner and Fuhrer Sales Rep. Jeff Lander for their participation in making this event a success.

The Pittsburgh Brewfest is organized by the Pittsburgh Rugby Club and benefits PLEA (Programs for Living, Education, and Advocacy.) The 2008 event featured over 60 different craft brews available for sampling. For more information on this event you can visit the Pittsburgh Rugby Club website at: http://www.pghrugby.com/brewfest.html

CHEERS SPORTS FANS!

For all you sports fans out there, check out this website that we discovered: http://www.tailgatehaven.com/. We know many beer drinkers are as loyal to their sports team as they are to their favorite beverage. And what better way to enjoy the two than at a tailgate party!

Tailgate Haven is America’s #1 tailgate planner and believes that the party is just as important as the game. Their website was established to help fans plan and organize a successful tailgate event, share photos and connect with others. It’s not just an online forum for NFL and college football fans to gather, but will soon feature MLB, NASCAR and more.

We recently partnered with the folks at Tailgate Haven because it is a natural tie in for our brands and helps us gain exposure with our own fans. The company founders have been out promoting Yuengling at their tailgate events up and down the East coast… because they’re fans who love to tailgate too! They’ve been sampling Yuengling beer and handing out Tailgate Haven and Yuengling giveaways at stadiums in PA, NJ, NY, MD, VA, WV and FL. A special thanks to Dr. Marc Rubenstein for spreading the word and sharing these pictures:
The above photo is from a recent Tampa event that Tailgate Haven and Yuengling co-sponsored with a South Florida user group called the Bullies. They also reached out to other USF groups that use the website and invited them to became part of their Tailgate Tour. The fun spread quickly and Tailgate Haven rewarded these users by sponsoring their tailgate and serving plenty of Yuengling!

Anybody out there who likes to party before the game, remember… it’s all about the tailgate!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RAY’S BAR

Ray’s ‘Happy Birthday’ Bar is a great neighborhood joint located in South Philly at Passyunk and Federal Streets. Just down the block from the world famous cheesesteak shops, Pat’s and Geno’s, the Happy Birthday Bar welcomes visitors young and old into their quaint, friendly environment.

Opened by the late Ray Capozzoli in 1938, his son “Lou Capp” now runs the place. This year marks their own 70th birthday! Pictured below is Yuengling sales representative, Frank Altadonna, presenting Lou Capozzoli with a framed birthday article signed by Dick Yuengling. We appreciate their many years of support for our brands.

If you’ve ever been, you know Ray’s Happy Birthday Bar is steeped in almost as much tradition as America’s Oldest Brewery. These are the kind of establishments that Yuengling is proud to be associated with. We should all be so lucky to live by the simple words that have become Ray’s motto – “Good Times, good drinks, good friends.”

Congratulations to Lou and his bar on 70 years of Happy Birthdays!

DISCOVER OUR DARK SIDE

Fall brings a cool, crisp air to Pennsylvania. The foliage transforms into a backdrop of rich hues. At Yuengling, we embrace the waning daylight hours. This is the season where we enjoy a Black & Tan to take the chill out of an evening.

Yuengling Original Black & Tan is a combination of our Dark Brewed Porter and Premium Beer (60% Porter/40% Premium blend). It is rich and dark in color, with a well balanced flavor that finishes smooth and satisfying. B&T has a faint sweetness with hints of caramel and coffee from the dark roasted malts. We invite you to celebrate Halloween with Original Black & Tan and... discover our dark side.

BATTLE OF THE BREWERIES

So the Philadelphia Phillies will battle the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series. Pretty symbolic for Yuengling – considering that we operate our breweries in Pottsville, Pennsylvania AND Tampa, Florida. (We actually have 2 plants in Pottsville totaling 3 breweries altogether.)

As you’d expect, the trash talking has begun!
 - Does the beer flow better in Chickie & Pete’s at Citizens Bank Park or at the Centerfield Brewhouse in Tropicana Field?
 - Does Joe Maddon represent his Hazleton, PA roots and kick back with a can of Yuengling Premium or does he enjoy Light Lager now in the warm sunshine state?
 - Which Phans will be washing down cheesesteaks with an ice cold Yuengling?

We’re up for a little friendly banter between breweries. Watching these young teams battle it out is a breath of fresh air for everyone here at America’s Oldest Brewery. The bottom line is – you can enjoy fresh-brewed Yuengling beer in either city while rooting for your favorite team. Tune in tonight as the games begin!

SPiN’s SUMMER OF SUDS CHAMPION

Thanks to your vote, Yuengling overwhelmingly won ‘world’s best beer’ according to the CBS Sports online bracket contest. We couldn’t have done it without your support! Thank you to everyone for participating and helping us gain some national recognition. For complete contest results, visit www.sportsline.com/spin/story/11019200. And have a cold Yuengling to celebrate our victory!

HOW ‘BOUT THEM PHILS!

After 15 years, Philadelphia is once again in the World Series. Congratulations to the Phillies for clinching the National League Championship last night! Many fans were celebrating with a Yuengling… or several!!

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that while the series was going on in Philadelphia this past week, our diligent sales team was hosting Lord Chesterfield Ale draft samplings at bars around Citizens Bank Park. Thanks to our sales rep and Jeff at Bishop’s Collar for sharing these photos.

Visit your favorite bar to enjoy a cold Yuengling, watch tonight’s game and see if Tampa can win the ALCS. We’re hoping that teams from both of the Yuengling Brewery home markets will represent us in the World Series. Then we’ll all have reason to celebrate!
