In 2008 the Philadelphia Phillies won the 104th World Series in game 5 over the Tampa Bay Rays. This was the Phillies second World Series win, coming 28 years after the first. In January 2009, the Phillies organization decided to share the joy of this championship with their fans. The team is sending the championship trophy on a tour so Phillies fans have a chance to actually see the trophy to accompany their memory of this 2008 win. In appreciation to WPPA, a local Pottsville radio station, the trophy made a stop in Pottsville, home of America’s Oldest Brewery! The trophy was on display at Maroon’s Sports Bar in downtown Pottsville. This event drew a crowd estimated at nearly 400 people. Fans were lined up down the block for their chance to see the trophy. Once fans got their view of the trophy upstairs, they enjoyed the Phillies atmosphere with their favorite Yuengling products at the bar. Maroon’s offers all of the Yuengling products in bottles, and six Yuengling products on draught. The Philly Phanatic accompanied the trophy on this visit, along with Phillies broadcaster Tom McCarthy. Congratulations to the Phillies on their accomplishment this season, and thank you to everyone who made this event possible!
