OPENING TAP CEREMONY

Philly Beer week officially began on March 6 with the ceremonial tapping of the first keg. The Mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter, was on hand this evening to take part in the tapping. He was provided with the Hammer of Glory by a man dressed as Benjamin Franklin! With no more than a few hits, the job was done and the suds were flowing. The crowd cheered with excitement about the week that was ahead. The opening ceremony was held at the Comcast Center and it was sold out with 600 people in attendance. Afterwards Yuengling joined a select group of around thirty breweries to sample products at this event. The crowd enjoyed our seasonal Bock Beer.

We were proud to be a part of the opening ceremonies of Philly Beer Week 2009, and look forward to next year.

Afterwards, Yuengling headed to Danielle & Fred Renzulli’s bar, 12 Steps Down, for an after party. This bar is located in South Philly’s Italian Market area at 9th & Christian Sts. Patrons enjoyed Bock samples and $3.00 Lager pints. Patrons must have really enjoyed the samples because the bar finished two half kegs of Bock during this one night event!
